چکیده

For n even, a factorization of a complete graph Kn is a partition of the edges into n−1 perfect matchings, called the factors of the factorization. With respect to a factorization, a path is called rainbow if its edges are from distinct factors. A rainbow Hamiltonian path takes exactly one edge from each factor and is called orthogonal to the factorization. It is known that not all factorizations have orthogonal paths. Assisted by a simple edge-switching algorithm, here we show that for n≥8, the rotational factorization of Kn, GKn has orthogonal paths. We prove that this algorithm finds a rainbow path with at least (2n+1)/3 vertices in any factorization of Kn (in fact, in any proper coloring of Kn). We also give some problems and conjectures about the properties of the algorithm. q 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Combin Designs 18: 167–176, 2010

On Rainbow Cycles and Paths

In a properly edge colored graph, a subgraph using every color at most once is called rainbow. In this thesis, we study rainbow cycles and paths in proper edge colorings of complete graphs, and we prove that in every proper edge coloring of Kn, there is a rainbow path on (3/4− o(1))n vertices, improving on the previously best bound of (2n + 1)/3 from [?]. Similarly, a k-rainbow path in a proper...

Rainbow spanning trees in complete graphs colored by one-factorizations

Brualdi and Hollingsworth conjectured that, for even n, in a proper edge coloring of Kn using precisely n − 1 colors, the edge set can be partitioned into n2 spanning trees which are rainbow (and hence, precisely one edge from each color class is in each spanning tree). They proved that there always are two edge disjoint rainbow spanning trees. Kaneko, Kano and Suzuki improved this to three edg...

Technical Report TR - 2008 - 021 Rainbow Paths

A k-rainbow path in a graph with colored edges is a path of length k where each edge has a different color. In this note, we settle the problem of obtaining a constructive k-coloring of the edges of Kn in which one may find, between any pair of vertices, a large number of internally disjoint krainbow paths. In fact, our construction obtains the largest possible number of paths. This problem was...

Paths and cycles with many colors in edge-colored complete graphs

In this paper we consider properly edge-colored complete graphs, i.e. two edges with the same color cannot share an endpoint, so each color class is a matching. A proper edge-coloring is a factorization if each color class is a perfect or near perfect matching. A subgraph is called rainbow if its edges have different colors. We show that in any factorization of the complete graph Kn on n vertic...

On the outer independent 2-rainbow domination number of Cartesian products of paths and cycles

‎Let G be a graph‎. ‎A 2-rainbow dominating function (or‎ 2-RDF) of G is a function f from V(G)‎ ‎to the set of all subsets of the set {1,2}‎ ‎such that for a vertex v ∈ V (G) with f(v) = ∅, ‎the‎‎condition $bigcup_{uin N_{G}(v)}f(u)={1,2}$ is fulfilled‎, wher NG(v)  is the open neighborhood‎‎of v‎. ‎The weight of 2-RDF f of G is the value‎‎$omega (f):=sum _{vin V(G)}|f(v)|$‎. ‎The 2-rainbow‎‎d...
